Attendance Incentive Program beginning Tuesday, September 8, 2009

School attendance is a crucial ingredient in the academic success of your child.  Attendance in class has a stronger impact on academic progress than any other factor.  From an educational standpoint, the process of determining and grading a student’s performance must include a review of such items as self-discipline, group interaction, and class participation which are not always captured or reflected on paper-and-pencil tests.

Accordingly, the Fell Charter School expects and requires that student’s maintain regular attendance in school.  For the 2009-2010 school year, Fell Charter School would like to challenge your child to strive for perfect attendance.  The criteria for the Attendance Incentive Program (AIP) are as follows:

1)                  Being on time for school each and every day, (classes begin at 7:45 a.m., students should be in the gymnasium no later than 7:40 a.m.)

2)                 Having no excused or unexcused absences.

3)                 If a student should have a medical, vision, dental and/or psychological appointment scheduled during a school day, he/she must return to school that day with a physician’s excuse.  If, however, the appointment is scheduled for 2:00 pm or later, a physician’s excuse must be provided to the homeroom teacher the morning of the following day.

4)                If a student should become ill during school hours (7;45 a.m. through 3;30 p.m.) and the school nurse decides that the student must go home, this will not impact perfect attendance.

5)                 Emergency room visits must be accompanied by a physician’s excuse the following day.

*If your child meets the criteria for the AIP in the first quarter, he/she will be able to attend a school-sponsored day at Roba’s Tree Farm or

Lackawanna County Coal Mine Tour, depending on weather or availability.

*If your child meets the criteria for the AIP in the second quarter, he/she will be able to attend a school-sponsored movie at a local theatre.

*If your child meets the criteria for the AIP in the third quarter, he/she will be able to attend a school-sponsored baseball game at the PNC Field at the Stadium at Montage.

*If your child meets the criteria for the AIP in the fourth quarter, he/she will be able to attend a school-sponsored local trip for bowling.  In the event that we cannot schedule at day, gift cards will be provided.

Perfect Attendance

In the event that a student should achieve Perfect Attendance, he/she will receive a $50.00 gift card from the local mall in Dickson City.

Perfect Attendance is defined as being on-time and present for the entire day of each and every day of school.  Leaving school for any reason will automatically disqualify a student from receiving a Perfect Attendance Award.

Remember…each student has the opportunity to win an Attendance Prize every quarter!!!!

{Any transfer student will be eligible to receive either an AIP and/or Perfect Attendance award; however, attendance records from their previous school(s) will be taken into account.}
