Welcome to 1st Grade! My name is Mrs. Evans and this is my fourth year teaching here at Fell Charter Elementary School. I earned my BS in Elementary Education and my Master’s degree in Reading from the University of Scranton. Over the past ten years I have taught preschool, kindergarten, and first grade. I love teaching children how to read! I grew up in Old Forge so therefore I also have a love for pizza. This year’s class seems to have the same love of food. This year in first grade we have traveled through time building caves, castles, and boats. Everyday is an adventure in first grade!

What We’re Doing:
Reading: We have just begun our “Journeys” theme. Our stories will take us on a journey to see different places in the world. We will continue to learn about long vowel spellings, adjectives, verbs, and nouns.
Math: We are learning about subtraction and addition of numbers to the sum of 20. We are also learning about pennies, nickels, and dimes.
Science: We are beginning our unit on Earth Science. In our first chapter we will explore rocks and fossils. During this unit we will also discuss the earth’s natural resources and how we can take care of them.
Paragon: We are discussing the Pilgrims and Woodland Indians. This week we are taking a voyage on the Mayflower. Next week we will be learning about how the Indians helped the Pilgrims and how the first Thanksgiving was celebrated.
