5th Grade

Welcome to the 5th grade classroom!

During the year students will learn many study and organizational skills.  They will also focus on fluency, comprehension skills, and writing skills during English/Language Arts class, with an emphasis on learning to write narrative, informational, and persuasive essays.  5th grade also studies Shakespeare and each year performs one of his plays for the school and community.  Be prepared for a great deal of hands-on projects and experiments throughout the year!

5th Grade’s Subjects:

E.L.A.: Study and comprehension skills involving weekly stories.  Grammar continuing with nouns, verbs, adjectives, and adverbs.  Power points presentations for the weekly story for students that display above average study and comprehensions skills.  Writing informational and persuasive essays.

 

Math: Working towards mastery of decimals and fractions.  The class also is working on problem solving and writing out the answers using words. This prepares the students for their standardized testing.

 

 

Science: Working on life cycles of organisms and the process of plant life goes through when growing.

 

Paragon: The classical world, what do we learn from the ruins of an Empire?  The students will research and learn about the culture of Rome.

 

Workshop is worked into each class and focuses on reinforcing concepts. Workshops are also set up so students can work above and beyond the assignments.

 

Character education is always a focus at Fell. Each class will be creating a door design to display positive behaviors when dealing with bullying.
