6-8 Science
Welcome to 6-8th Grade Science & the 6th Grade Homeroom!
You our now entering the room of Mrs. Allegrucci where the students experience first hand the art of imagination where every day is different from the last. The students are actively involved in learning completing both group and individual projects. Students are encouraged to think outside the box. They are learning skills to help them succeed in this ever changing world.
6th Grade ELA
The sixth grade class will read the following novels “Calico Bush”, “Bound for Oregon”, and “Jump Ship to Freedom.” Each novel will help to teach the history that shaped our world today. After reading each novel we as a class will recreate the story via a group activity, which will include but not be limited to creating of a patchwork quilt, maps, and interactive experiences. In English we are also working on the different parts of speech as well as sentence structure. We use both text and computer activities during English. Students are encouraged to build their vocabulary by looking words they do not know up in the dictionary and keeping a journal of these words.
6th Grade Science
In 6th Grade we are studying Earth Science. Over this school year the students will have gained an understanding of the importance of following the Scientific Methods as related to Earth Science. Topics to be covered are maps of earth, how minerals form, and the rock formation of the earth. They will learn what earthquakes are and how they are measured as well as volcanic eruptions, the causes and the affects. Another topic that we will focus on is exploring the oceans and the movement of ocean water. Hands on activities for this class consist of creating a volcano and having it erupt, creating sediment in a jug, creating shoebox habitats as well as power point presentations to name a few. As you can see we are quite busy here in 6th Grade.
Each student will keep a lab journal which will be graded quarterly for a test grade.
7th Grade Science
In 7th Grade Science we are studying Life Science. The students have learned the safety symbols and safety guidelines in order to participate in lab experiments as well as the Scientific Methods as related to Life Science since with each lesson we do a lab that corresponds. Students will be required to keep a journal of their lab experiments which will be graded. Topics to be covered are: the diversity of cells, the types of cells and their function, heredity, evolution, and classification in reference to the Mendel Theory. We will cover simple organisms, fungi, and plants, along with the different types of animals, their behavior and how to classify them.
8th Grade Science
In 8th grade we are always busy since it is Physical Science. As with 7th grade the students need to follow the safety guides as well as incorporating the Scientific Method. This class will be group oriented, and will include weekly labs of the Science curriculum. The students are always excited and eager to see what comes next. I look forward to a great year in our new building.
Each student will keep a lab journal which will be graded quarterly for a test grade.
