Welcome to Mrs. Workman’s 7th Grade ELA and Health and Physical Education page! This year I am very excited to teach both ELA to the seventh grade and Physical Education to all grades.
I hope you find the information helpful and if you have any questions feel free to email me any time.
*Every class will participate in Jump Rope for Heart. This is an educational program that raises awareness for heart disease. The students will participate in a school wide jump rope event that helps raise money for the American Heart Association. Last year Fell Charter School raised $1,500!
*Students will have the opportunity to earn a trip to the Carbondale YMCA each quarter based on an Physical Education Character Incentive.
Kindergarten to Second Grade Physical Education
Each lesson is full of fun and movement!
-Focuses on movement, coordination, and lower level skills of sports. Each class starts with an exciting warm up, which incorporates the various styles of locomotor skills. The lesson focus is concentrated on the selected sport or skill. Each skill is followed with a creative game that reinforces the skills learned. The students have a great time learning new games and skills with their peers.
This year the Kindergarten, first, and second grade classes will have the opportunity to be involved in a gymnastics training session with the experts from ALPHA Gymnastics in Scranton, PA.
Third through Fifth Grade Physical Education
Each lesson is packed with skills and games to improve on your child’s coordination and teamwork!
Focuses on teamwork, cooperation, and basic skills of sports. The students will master the basic skills of the selected sport through drills and mini game situations. They will use the skills learned to be involved in an organized games. Players will learn how to work with their peers to accomplish the tasks and goals of the sport. Students will learn about teamwork and sportsmanship while maintaining a positive attitude.
This year the third and fourth graders will have the opportunity to explore Weis Market. These classes will be going on an educational field trip to Weis Markets to discover the healthy options that a food market had to offer.
Sixth through Eight Grade Physical Education
Each lesson is geared towards improving the fundamental skills of the sport being covered in class.
Focuses on sport units: soccer, bowling, shuffleboard, baseball, hockey, badminton, and much more. Players will use learned skills to play organized games. Students will demonstrate an advance knowledge of the sport and skills to play them.
Once a Quarter, students will be involved in FIT camp. FIT camp is derived of different physical exercises that promote healthy living and conditioning for a more active lifestyle.
6th Grade P.E. Assignment: Vocabulary and Diagram of field or court.
7th Grade P.E. Assignment: Background and History of Sport
8th Grade P.E. Assignment: Professional Athlete Report
Sixth Grade Health: Nutrition, Food Pyramid, and Healthy Eating
Seventh Grade Health: Bullying, and Movement and Coordination unit that involves learning about the skeletal and muscular systems.
Eight Grade Health: Drugs and Alcohol unit. The Eight grade class participates in the American Red Cross program for CPR and First Aid. All eight graders will be certified in CPR and First Aid at the end of the program.
7th Grade ELA
This year and ELA the 7th grade will be working through four Paragon World Literature novels. Each novel is packed with relevant information that is used to help them succeed in all areas of Reading comprehension and vocabulary. We will be working with our brains and our hands to create projects and reports that relate to each novel read. We will also be focusing on grammar to improve on our writing and reading skills throughout the year.
